ABSTRACT

COVID-19, as a public health emergency, poses a major challenge to the economic and social development of numerous countries, impacting not only the psychology and behavior of residents at the individual level, but also the stability of society at the societal level, typified by the increased difficulty of smooth economic operation due to residents' irrational consumption behavior. In the present study, we have drawn on the psychological stimuli-organism-response (SOR) and mediating effect theories to explore the causes of irrational consumption behavior. Finally, based on the actual situation in the questionnaire survey, we propose the system for assessing the effectiveness of the government's response to the epidemic and measures under the influence of irrational consumption. In the results of our study, we found that the positive and negative irrational consumption adjustment coefficients of the government under the influence of its inherent image were 6.72% and 17.64%, respectively;the government intervention indices under the positive and negative perceptions output according to QFD theory were 0.14 and 0.02, respectively;and the positive and negative measure effectiveness indices of the government response programs were 2.28 and 2.10, respectively. Thus, through our study, we concluded that residents' positive perception of government image would reduce the occurrence of irrational consumption behavior, while the improvement of irrational consumption behavior by perfect psychological services under residents' negative perception of government image is more obvious. On the basis of summarizing the experience of this COVID-19, this study can serve the prediction and regulation of residents' irrational consumption behavior under the government response to public health emergencies, and also enrich the research literature on irrational consumption behavior in related consumption behavior studies, and more importantly, provide theoretical and empirical support for similar academic cases in the international community. ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: It is important to understand how the perception of death affects the competence to cope with death. OBJECTIVES: To explore whether the perception of death has an indirect effect on competence to cope with death through the mediation of attitude toward death and meaning of life. METHODS: A total of 786 nurses from Hunan Province, China, selected by random sampling method and asked to complete an online electronic questionnaire between October and November 2021 were included in the study. RESULTS: The nurses' scored 125.39 ± 23.88 on the competence to cope with death. There was a positive correlation among perception of death, competence to cope with death, the meaning of life, and attitude toward death. There were three mediating pathways: the separate mediating effect of natural acceptance and meaning of life, and the chain mediating effect of natural acceptance and meaning of life. CONCLUSION: The nurses' competence to cope with death was moderate. Perception of death could indirectly and positively predict nurses' competence to cope with death by enhancing natural acceptance or sense of meaning in life. In addition, perception of death could improve natural acceptance and then enhance the sense of meaning in life to positively predict nurses' competence to cope with death.

ABSTRACT

Food safety has received unprecedented attention since the COVID-19 outbreak. Exploring food safety regulatory mechanisms in the context of cluster public crises is critical for COVID-19 prevention and control. As a result, using data from a food safety regulation survey in the Bei-jing-Tianjin-Hebei urban cluster, this paper investigates the impact of food safety regulation on the prevention and control of COVID-19. The study found that food safety regulation and cluster public crisis prevention and control have a significant positive relationship, with the ability to integrate regulatory resources acting as a mediator between the two. Second, industry groups argue that the relationship between regulatory efficiency and regulatory resource integration should be moderated in a positive manner. Finally, industry association support positively moderates the mediating role of regulatory re-source integration capacity between food safety regulatory efficiency and cluster public crises, and there is a mediating effect of being moderated. Our findings shed light on the mechanisms underlying the roles of regulatory efficiency, resource integration capacity, and industry association support in food safety, and they serve as a useful benchmark for further improving food safety regulations during the COVID-19 outbreak.

ABSTRACT

The Covid-19 pandemic has shown that educational systems must have an online component or even a substitute. However, the efforts for this necessary transition fall largely on the teaching staff, who have been forced to quickly adapt their activities to a virtual environment. In this study, a theoretical model for analyzing how teachers' information and communications technology (ICT) skills and the integration of these technologies influence the improvement of teaching and teacher job satisfaction is introduced. The model also pays special attention to the gender gap related to the use of ICT in teaching. At the empirical level, the model is validated on a sample of 257 Spanish primary school teachers, using the partial least squares (PLS) structural equation method. The results of the analysis show that, although the teachers' ICT skills help them improve their teaching activities, such skills do not have a direct impact on teachers' job satisfaction. However, teachers who integrate ICTs into their teaching activities not only improve their results and lighten their wor-kload but also enjoy higher job satisfaction, which translates into more motivated and committed teachers. In addition, teachers' ICT skills influence job satisfaction in different ways depending on gender. Although, for female teachers, the integration of ICT increases their job satisfaction, the results show that, for male teachers, this integration should gene-rate improvements in teaching to yield enhanced job satisfaction. As the main implication, it is recommended to invest in teachers' ICT skills, as these lead to enhanced efficiency and motivation and enable the change toward an ICT-based teaching model. © 2022, El Profesional de la Informacion. ABSTRACT

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence between online purchase e-CRM activities and e-customer satisfaction on e-loyalty. In particular, it focuses on the mediating effect of e-customer satisfaction in the relationship between online purchase e-CRM activities and e-loyalty. Design/methodology/approach: The data was collected from customers who have purchased online products in South Korea for a week. The study used 1307 questionnaires in the quantitative analysis and the proposed research model and a set of hypotheses were tested using a structural equation model (SEM). Findings: The findings of this study indicate that online purchase e-CRM activities (including e-Marketing, e-Sales, e-Support and e-System) have a significant positive impact on e-customer satisfaction. E-Marketing and e-Sales were found to have a statistically significant positive influence on e-loyalty, but e-Support and e-System did not have a statistically significant effect on e-loyalty. This study also found that e-customer satisfaction significantly mediated the link between online purchase e-CRM activities (including e-Marketing, e-Sales, e-Support and e-System) and e-loyalty. Research limitations/implications: The limitation of this study is that since the data only targets customers in their 20s and 40s, it is difficult to say that it represents customers of all ages. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out research on e-CRM activities for customers of different ages who have experience in online purchasing in the future. Moreover, as the e-commerce market using digital technology grows, companies need to preemptively re-spond to the expansion of "untact" (non-face-to-face) services in the post-COVID-19 era. Therefore, the results of this study presented theoretical and practical implications for improving online purchase e-CRM activities, e-custom-er satisfaction, and e-loyalty to e-commerce companies. Originality/value: The recent COVID-19 pandemic has caused great losses and considerable difficulties in various industries around the world, but to overcome this, the e-commerce market has expanded and has led to the advance-ment of the digital transformation era. Therefore, the originality of this study suggested the importance of e-CRM activities reflecting the purchasing trend of the online market in line with the trend of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and IT era, and it is significant in that it provides theoretical and managerial marketing and strategic implications for better recognition and utilization of these e-CRM activities from corporate and customer perspectives. © 2022 People and Global Business Association.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a global public health emergency, increasing the prevalence of emotional distress, and potentially leading to altered diet behavior. Self-efficacy measures various aspects of perceiving and understanding emotions. The present study was carried out with the objective of understanding the effect of emotional self-efficacy on dietary behavior and quality. It also shed light on which elements contributed to the link between food-related behavior and perceived dietary quality during the first lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the factor analysis of nineteen food groups, choices, consumption, and socioeconomic status were examined in a sample of 441 Chinese participants. Multiple linear regression examined the association between food consumption, dietary quality, and self-efficacy. Contrary to prior research, the intake of salty snacks and alcoholic beverages dropped by 3.3% and 2.8%, respectively, during the first lockdown. Emotional self-efficacy negatively mediated the relationship between socioeconomic status and dietary quality. In conclusion, emotional self-efficacy is a well-established tool for evaluating how Chinese people cope with negative emotions. As an individual's dietary quality was affected during the imposed lockdown, the present study offers valuable insight into psychosocial factors that may contribute to health disparities by advocating for organized nutritional support in future epidemic-related quarantines.

ABSTRACT

Objective: This study aims to explore the direct effects of extraversion and neuroticism on college freshmen's depressive symptoms and their indirect effects via social support under the background of COVID-19. Method: A total of 3,563 college freshmen were surveyed using the extraversion and neuroticism scales of the Chinese version of the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), the Chinese version of the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), and the Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS). Partial correlation analyses and regression analyses were used. Results: (1) Extraversion had a significant and negative predictive effect on depressive symptoms, while neuroticism positively predicted depressive symptoms. The interaction effect between extraversion and neuroticism on depressive symptoms was also significant. Neuroticism had a greater impact on depressive symptoms in college freshmen with low levels of extraversion. (2) Furthermore, social support partially mediated the relationships between extraversion and depressive symptoms, and neuroticism and depressive symptoms. Conclusions: Extraversion and neuroticism can directly affect college freshmen' s depressive symptoms, and have indirect effects via the mediating role of social support. Additionally, extraversion interacts with neuroticism, and extraversion plays a protective role in the effect of neuroticism on depressive symptoms. These findings help identify college freshmen at high risk of depression and design effective prevention or intervention measures for them.

ABSTRACT

Similar interventions to stop the spread of COVID-19 led to different outcomes in Latin American countries. This study aimed to capture the multicausality of factors affecting HS-capacity that could help plan a more effective response, considering health as well as social aspects. A facilitated GMB was constructed by experts and validated with a survey from a wider population. Statistical analyses estimated the impact of the main factors to the HS-capacity and revealed the differences in its mechanisms. The results show a similar four-factor structure in all countries that includes public administration, preparedness, information, and collective self-efficacy. The factors are correlated and have mediating effects with HS-capacity; this is the base for differences among countries. HS-capacity has a strong relation with public administration in Bolivia, while in Nicaragua and Uruguay it is related through preparedness. Nicaragua lacks information as a mediation effect with HS-capacity whereas Bolivia and Uruguay have, respectively, small and large mediation effects with it. These outcomes increase the understanding of the pandemic based on country-specific context and can aid policymaking in low-and middle-income countries by including these factors in future pandemic response models.

ABSTRACT

This study explores associations between perceived economic status and depression among middle school students during COVID-19 in the context of conflict with parents and self-esteem. Data were collected in South Korea in the fall of 2020. A total of 328 middle school students were included, and a multiple mediator model was employed to examine the multiple mediating effects. Middle schoolers' household economic status was negatively associated with their conflict with parents. Conflict with parents was negatively related to middle school students' self-esteem. Indirect effects of perceived economic status via conflict with parents were significantly associated with depression. The indirect effect of perceived economic status via both conflict with parents and self-esteem was related to depression. Government subsidies should temporarily be expanded to improve households' economic status to potentially improve middle school students' depression and to enhance relationships between children and their parents during the COVID-19 pandemic. Further, extra financial support from the government should be focused on poor households with children in order to address family conflict, self-esteem, and depression among middle school students.
